The Dark Ages

There were at times but very few copies of the Bible in existence. In the different countries of Europe, men were moved by the Spirit of God to search for the truth as for hidden treasure. Providentially guided to the Holy Scriptures, they were willing to accept the light, at any cost to themselves.

A Bible Answer

The Cross, what does it mean?

Answer:   Galatians 3:13

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us."

And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8.

"And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him."     "That He might sanctify the people with His own blood," Christ "suffered without the gate." Hebrews 13:12. For transgression of the law of God, Adam and Eve were banished from Eden. Christ, our substitute, was to suffer without the boundaries of Jerusalem. He died outside the gate, where felons and murderers were executed. Full of significance are the words, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us." Galatians 3:13.

In the sufferings of Christ upon the cross prophecy was fulfilled. Centuries before the crucifixion, the Saviour had foretold the treatment He was to receive. He said, "Dogs have compassed Me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed Me: they pierced My hands and My feet. I may tell all My bones: they look and stare upon Me. They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture." Psalm 22:16-18. The prophecy concerning His garments was carried out without counsel or interference from the friends or the enemies of the Crucified One. To the soldiers who had placed Him upon the cross, His clothing was given. Christ heard the men's contention as they parted the garments among them. His tunic was woven throughout without seam, and they said, "Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be." Read More

Rowan County Clerk,  Kim Davis has been jailed for contempt of court when  she refused to participate in the marriages of homosexuals  by issuing them marriage licenses. Obama and Hillary believe she ought to obey the "law of the land".  Hillary and Obama want the clerk in jail for not keeping the law.

Are there any who will stand up for  this woman who refuses to compromise her faith? How about the American Civil Liberties Union? Surely they would defend her religious liberty. The ACLU urged the court to fine her an amount "sufficiently serious" that would force her compliance. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Huckabee are defending her actions. This is an important case to understand correctly. Will we obey the laws of the land or the commandments of God? Each professing Christian will soon have to make this decision.

The Roman Catholic pope has been invited by a Roman Catholic Speaker of the House to address a joint session of Congress. This has never happened before. There is a reason why. The United States Constitution does not allow a state religion such  as the Vatican does. There is no democracy in the Vatican state. To stand before the Congress of the United States is an affront to the principles upon which the United States was founded.

Turkey attacks ISIS. The United States wanted Turkey to join the fight, but with no success until now.  What has changed? Turkey wants to once again lead the Islamic world. Does the attack against those who proclaim to be the caliphate signal a message about who will be the caliphate?

The United States Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Affordable Care Act which was written so that states which did not set up exchanges for insurance could not receive subsidies for individuals insured by the Act. The Court in a 6 to 3 decision decided to rewrite the law so that states can receive subsidies even though they did not setup exchanges. source Justices Scalia, Alito and Thomas ruled for the minority. Justice Antonin Scalia, in his dissent accused the court of rewriting Obama Care, “we really should start calling the law SCOTUScare" (Supreme Court of the United States care). “By the state” appears in seven provisions of the Affordable Care Act that mentions tax credits. “What are the odds, do you think, that the same slip of the pen occurred in seven separate places?” “The interpretive somersaults they have formed will remain as astounding precedent, cited by lawyers to confuse our jurisprudence.”  “And these two cases will publish forever the discouraging truth that the Supreme Court of the United States favors some laws over others, and that it is prepared to sacrifice all the usual interpretive principles … to uphold and assist its favorites.”

Why do we take the time to comment on this "political" matter? Because it is a revelation of the fall of the United States which was depicted in the Bible as a lamb when she was born, but would eventually speak as a dragon. The United States was a Protestant nation originally that was founded on personal liberty, including religious liberty. Today, the Constitution of the United States which set up separation of powers between the Congress, the Court, and the President has been fully ignored when the Court did not interpret the law as to its Constitutionality, but acted the part of the Congress by rewriting the legislation in order to accomplish what it thought was a proper law. This is not something new, but it is one of the most blatantly unconstitutional acts that all can understand.

Many are not aware of the situation and what has been legislated and how the Court rewrote the law. Following is an explanation that if studied will reveal what the legislation was, why it was worded as it was, and that it is indeed a rewriting of the law by the United States Supreme Court.

Jonathan Gruber who was an architect in drafting the legislation explains why Obama Care required states to set up exchanges in order to receive subsidies. There is no question about the wording in the legislation, yet the SCOTUS ignored the plain statement in the bill and reinterpreted the law in order to sustain the subsidies to states that did not set up exchanges.

Update.   March 16, 2015

What comes to your mind when you hear or see the the statement "separation of church and state"? Hopefully it would be the religious freedom that many have. Not all countries protect religious freedom as does the United States of America, home of the free.

The phrase was first used in America by Thomas Jefferson as a reference to the "Establishment and Free Exercise Clause" in the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. It states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion... or the prohibiting the free exercise thereof". It gives the people of America freedom to worship their religion according to the dictates of their conscience. That means that I have the freedom to worship any religion the way I want (within limits of public safety) without government interference. What does it mean within public safety? The government would not tolerate human sacrifice if that's what your religion practices.

People have come from all over the world to experience the freedoms that the Constitution of the United States affords. Many have escaped persecution in their own countries. In fact, this is why the forefathers of America left their homes in Europe and settled the United States. They wanted freedom from persecution by church and state. The state church would use the long arm of the established government to punish those who opposed her beliefs. They would impose fines and if that did not work, they would at times resort to a death penalty. One only needs to go to the history books to see the records of such tyranny.

Why would a precious document such as the "first amendment" be attacked by politicians and high court officials? One reason is because this law that has so long protected religious freedom has been misinterpreted by those who hate Bible truth.  Today, in the United States, "separation of church and state" is used to advance immorality such as abortion, pornography, and homosexuality. Religious leaders are now uniting with government officials and law makers to be rid of this particular constitutional amendment, to put a stop to these immoralities.

Although this may sound good to put Christianity in government, do you think by destroying the separation of church and state that there may be a bad result? I think it will. The state could enforce laws that would affect your religious beliefs. The state could dictate what is proper or improper, moral or immoral. America was founded to escape religious persecution. But, not long after arriving here, some started persecuting their own people for not following the accepted religious interpretation of Scripture. It was seen that they were fast becoming like the country they left. Wisdom was given to godly men to formulate the laws that now protect the freedom of conscience that now protects the citizens of the United States of America. It is the founding principle of the land of liberty.

Another reason for opposition to the separation of church and state comes from religions that do not believe in such separation.

We see this today in many Muslim countries where church and state are one. Saudi Arabia and Iran are two examples where there is no religious liberty. ISIS reveals how far some will go to force the conscience of all who live in this world. If you say something against their religion, you will pay with your life. So do you you think that by doing away with these religious freedom laws that we could once again repeat history by having religious persecution?

There once lived a very wise king. The Bible says that he was the wisest man that ever lived, excepting Jesus, the King of Kings. His name is Solomon. He said in Ecclesiastes 1:9, "The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun". What he was saying is that history has a way of repeating itself.

In the book of Revelation, the Apostle John had a vision of the end time of earth's history, in which I believe we are now living. He saw arising, a religious power that will force the whole world to worship according to its beliefs. "And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth... And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed." Revelation 13:11, 12.

Notice this "beast" (a kingdom; Daniel 7:23), "exerciseth" (coerce) and "cause" (force) the "earth" (global) to "worship" (a religious act) the "first beast" (worship belongs solely to God). What John saw was a time when there will arise a religious power that will impose its religious beliefs upon the whole world. And if you do not conform, you will be persecuted, even with death. It happened once before in Europe in the "Dark Ages" when millions were killed, many burned at the stake.

Is it possible that this could happen in our day, in our modern society? Remember what King Solomon said about history being repeated.

God is giving a warning message to the world that it would not partake of this false "religious" movement. If you look closely at what's going on in the political, economic, social, and religious world today, you will see this religious power is setting the stage to make his "mark", the mark of the beast.

In many countries there is still freedom of religion, there is a separation between church and state. Enjoy it while it's still here. Soon, very soon, separation of church and state will be a thing of the past. There is coming a "time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time." Daniel 12:1. Look up, for our redemption draweth nigh!

Look closely at the photograph. Do you see the tiny trail in the sand? So much time making so many loops, but what was the destination or purpose of travel?

As our family walked along the beach one cool, cloudy morning my husband's keen eyesight spotted the trail with a perishing worm at one end. He quickly scooped up the little creature and deposited it in a shady area but it was probably too late to save its life - it had worn itself out seeking. The photograph of its wanderings was taken shortly after the attempted rescue. It intrigued me that the little thing would spend so much time and effort going in circles. The trail reminds me of the various ways we humans look for happiness, fulfillment, or even the meaning of life, and often miss the mark..

Proverbs 18:2 states, "A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself."

The Christian's goal is to glorify God in words, actions, and dress; our reward is eternal life. We are not to seek what will glorify ourselves, or get distracted looking for pleasures that capture our time and attention. That is not to say that we should not find pleasure in life, but that what we chose to do has to meet a certain criteria. What we chose to occupy our time with (books, music, games, TV, internet, etc.) all effect our ability to achieve our goal. Our choices either advance or hinder our character development.

Over the years we have gone through our house and weeded out videos, books, toys, clothing, etc. that God has prompted us is not the best for Christian development. Each time he draws us closer to His standard of purity. When shopping or visiting the library we now ask ourselves if what we are about to get will help us reach our goal.

Like the little worm we may spend time wandering from one activity to the next, traveling in circles never achieving a purpose. Or we may rightly use God's word to direct us in our choices. A wise king once wrote, "Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Ecclesiastes 12:13

Fear God: have a healthy respect and reverence for the One who created us.

Keep His commandments: His law which is "holy, and just, and good."(Romans 7:12)

Exodus 20:

1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

13 Thou shalt not kill.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

15 Thou shalt not steal.

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.

God's law is like a guardrail to keep us on the right path so we don't waste time going in circles in our Christian growth. Do the activities we choose so absorb our attention away from Godly things that we are making an idol out of them? Do they foster competition in our hearts as we try to be better than someone else instead of encouraging them on the right path? Perhaps they are seemingly innocent pleasures that distract us for a time away from something better. We need to filter our thoughts, activities, and dress through God's word, for this is the whole duty of man.

"It's too hot," the little girl grimaced as she tried to dig her bare feet beneath the powdery surface of the dirt trail. A nearly 1,600 foot drop in elevation from the cool mountains where she lived to our desert foothills revealed that her feet could not handle barefoot hiking like at home. My husband drew an extra pair of socks from his pocket and handed them to her. She timidly accepted the small gift, concern for getting white socks dirty written on her face as well as spoken. Those worries were soon put to rest, and she gratefully put on the socks. With a heart felt "Thank you!" she was soon sprinting up the trail.

Our destination was an aspen grove cradled in a rocky crevice, fed by a shimmering waterfall - a little niche of paradise in the desert. After enjoying the scenery and the company, it was time to leave. At the base of the trail the little girl looked at me with sad eyes and stated, "I think I put a hole in your sock." Smiling reassuringly at her I gently said, "Sweetie, I never bring two pairs of socks on a hike. This morning I felt silly not knowing which socks to wear so I brought a second pair. God knew you would need them. Early this morning, before anyone knew you would need them, God provided for you." A whispered, "Wow" was all she could say.

"Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:34-40

A small gesture, but it was all I could do, and in it I was more blessed than that little girl for I was allowed the privilege of touching God.

A Testimony

By Desert Rose

It happened over a decade ago. Details have become blurred or missing over time, but I do remember the impossible position I was put in and the results.

He was only a puppy. So small, yet so full of life, even with his injury – a gaping gash on his throat that went all the way through the skin revealing his insides. Having called a vet and being told they could put him down for free, but would charge for anything else, and having no money, they turned to us for help. Actually, me. Could you stitch him up, was the plea.

I sew skirts, not puppies! No, I can't stitch up a puppy. They understood and started to leave. But I couldn't let them go. Wait – let's think this through again. We went over it and over it – none of us had money, the vet wouldn't work for free unless it was to put the animal down. But to stitch a puppy? No. I can't do it. They started to leave again. Wait! I still couldn't let them go. Silently I warred against my feelings. How could I say 'No?' Because I didn't want to hurt the creature – he was already hurt; because I was afraid it wouldn't help – he was already in a hopeless condition; because I just didn't want to stitch a puppy! His doom was ensured.

Cause of Disasters

Amid a great number of horrendous disasters, there are efforts to explain them.

Global warming is the explanation by many who reject Bible truth as to why we are seeing so many natural disasters. Yet many experts cannot tie these floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes to global warming.

We even hear a lot of "experts" telling us there are not more of these disasters. it is just that we have better reporting or an increase in population.

As believers in an omnipotent God and a powerful fallen angel, we know that there is more than we can see. We do not explain all that we see in nature in the same manner as do many scientists who do not believe. We do not see matters as did those who built the tower of Babel to rise above any future world-wide flood. No, we understand that God and Satan have powers to influence what we see in the natural world.

We have peace knowing "that all things work together for good to them that love God."  Satan may destroy, and he does, but he cannot do one thing that God does not allow him to do. As he is about this world wreaking havoc, we know that God is our Protector.

"I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." Psalms 91:2-7.

Living in the country is a blessing for families. An active out door life will develop health of both mind and body. Children should have a garden to cultivate, where they might find both amusement and useful employment. The training of plants and flowers not only teaches many good lessons, but by close contact with nature, the mind is pointed to God.
